DPS Technology Challenge - 2

I made the comments for the DPS Technology Challenge - 2 in the comment section of the first post on Aug. 20. I removed the comment contents and created a new post so there would have its unique URL.

I was reading through different participants’ blogs (DPS Technology Challenge) and I decided to comment on Tracy's Blog because it relates to how I was feeling about the summer. Everyday I was more exciting than the day before just because I am totally blessed to witness the present moments and just because it is a “New Day”. For some reason, I think about the newness of a day more during the summer months. Growing up, I never travel anywhere and we were limited to the number of activities my brothers and I could participate. So, this summer I was not sure how I was going to handle leaving family and friends in the US, facing my anticipations of meeting new people and visiting China. The label on most US products has "Made in China". So, I agree with Ann Shirley that every day was fresh and still is and there are no mistakes. I

DPS Technology Challenge - 5

I have used Wikipedia and have found inaccuracies while I was teaching as I compared information in Wikipedia with what is in the encyclopedia. Per this Technology Challenge, I took the opportunity to explore different subjects of interest and I did not realize how easy to add information. In the future I would like to add information concerning the Black Mongols of China. I found information about the Mongol Empire yet it is not what I would like to stress concerning its dynamic group.



I think this would be a great wiki to develop for educational purposes. I enjoyed working with Pbworks and Wikispaces. Like Wikipedia, I find this a wonderful way to communicate and collaborate with others. This tool is only as powerful as the involvement of the learning community contributing to the site. I am always eager to learn about other valuable technology tools to share with other educators.

I love Google Docs. I have had my elementary students creating slide show from the presentation mode in Google Docs and uploading their presentation into VoiceThread. Recently, I created an evaluation form of a Google Application, Part I presentation we did with the staff.

DPS Technology Challenge - 4

The following photos came from Creative Commons. I e-mail the pictures to myself and found that  the image was not visible in the message but the url was embedded within the message.

Above are two pictures, I selected the pictures that could be used later for a lesson. I was able to right click, copy, and download the pictures. It is a wonderful site to use when covering copyright issues. Also, it is a wonderful site to find copyright-friendly media and resources.



DPS Technology Challenge - 3

I made this post for theTechnology Challenge -2 under the DPS Technology Challenge using feed. I like Google Reader having all of my blogs listed in one location.  Dealing with DPS Technology Challenge 3, I went back and edit a Prezi that was created last year for Freshman Orientation. I like the way Prezi flows from one one to another. I have not been able to hyperlink other links to the page.

I like using Google Earth better; however, in using Google Map to plot an Itinerary to different places, I found that the map was not useful to show traveling by air so I created a map from Durham to Chicago.

Using Mixbook was like creating a scrapbook without having to cut, glue and color. I created an album using the photos I took at Yellow Mountain and at the Great Wall of China. I plan to use this program with students for journal writing, building a creative timeline, displaying their art and math in action lessons.

DPS Technology Challenge

I enter “DPS Technology Challenge” because I would like to receive technology credit for using different programs to inspire 21st learners.  I enjoy creating new and exciting lesson to promote learning. I am a strong believer that we have different styles for learning and technology is a tool to reach all learners. I believe that there are a lot of new and wonderful programs that are available or being created on the Internet. I look forward to learning more every day.

Home at last!

The NCTA: China study tour was beyond ones imagination of being exposure to the Chinese culture and history. It is my desire to have more NC teachers like myself and students who seek the opportunity to visit and walk the streets of ancient and preserved towns, temples, and palaces in China. Reading about China is one aspect of learning, taking a virtual tour is another, but visiting the country has deeply enlarged my perspective of a different lifestyle. It has given me a greater appreciation and understanding of a competitive yet beautiful country - China.
